Janet had been successfully running Courses from her home workshop for nearly 10 years. Working together offered an exciting chance to expand upon the successful business Janet had built alone. Under the new name of Random Makes, and as a team, anything was possible!

We began by looking to set up a pop up shop in one of the empty spaces in a our much loved home town of Penwortham, but when we were offered the opportunity to rent and transform the space, we jumped at it!

We are now one and a half years in and Random Makes is forever evolving, growing and changing for the better.  The most recent addition is our new workshop layout and additional table meaning we can cater to larger groups!

Sally -

I have been an art lover for my entire life, inherited from my Mum and encouraged and supported by both my parents, I have studied it as a subject since I left school in 2005.

I gained a First Class BA (Hons.) in Contemporary Art from the University of Huddersfield, where I was encouraged to explore the world of conceptual art and experimented in many mediums creating large installations for my Graduate show. I also have a Masters in Fine Art (M.A.) from the Manchester School of Art, during which time I went back to my passion in paint and portraiture.

My most recent achievement was being accepted onto the competition and programme Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year where I won my heat and made it to the semi finals of the show.

It has always been a passion and necessity for me to be creative. There is nothing more rewarding than enabling others to experience the exciting feeling of creating/making and seeing it develop from start to finish.
It is our aim that everyone goes away with something they are proud of!

Janet -

I am a creative person who enjoys “all things arty”.  When I am exploring and honing my skills is when I am most happy.

I made sense of my skills when I attended UClan and achieved a first class honours degree in 3 Dimensional Design – specialising in Ceramics.

It was fun to exhibit and sell my work regionally and internationally but my passion is to share my skills through teaching.

One of my greatest achievements was to qualify as an art teacher in 2003. This gave me the confidence to start a business in 2005 teaching creative children and adults in my workshop.  The numbers of people and demand grew resulting in me collaborating with Sally my daughter to launch Random Makes.

Inspiring children and adults everyday is such a joy and very satisfying.

Random Makes – the workshop is a place where creative children and adults meet to share in the warmth of creativity. A place to be inspired.
